December 3 - 4th grade spelling bee
December 7-8 - FSA mid year testing for math
Homework:
Monday - Complete Math Study Guide (we are reviewing it tomorrow)
Tuesday - Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! See you next Tuesday!
In math this week we will be completing a study guide and reviewing for our upcoming test. Tests are cumulative.
In science we will have a tuning fork lab activity and work on choices and the chapter 5 visual glossary.

November 16 - 20
Important Dates:
November 18 - Early Dismissal
November 19 - Colonial Festival
November 25 - 30 Thanksgiving Holiday
December 2 - Early Dismissal and Mid-Module Math Test
Homework for the Week:
Monday - Math Superstars AND a minimum of 30 minutes i-ready math due Friday
Tuesday - Math Module 3 Lessons 13 and 2 worksheet
Wednesday - Complete Science chapter 5 lesson 2 questions
Thursday - no homework
Friday - Have a great weekend!
This week in math we will continue using our multiplication strategies (area model, distributive property, and partial products) with multi-step word problems. We will be using a "RDW" strategy (read, draw, write). For the "D", a tape diagram is a suggested form of drawing at this grade level. We will also review some area and perimeter problems using multiplicative comparison. For example: John and Sue both have rectangular gardens in their back yards. Johns garden has a perimeter of 16 ft and its width is 4 times larger than its length. Sues garden is 12 times larger than Johns. What is the area of Johns garden? What is the area and perimeter of Sues garden?
In science this week we will begin learning about sound. Students will participate in a tuning fork lab activity, watch a study jams and brain pop about sound, participate in an online activity "Dangerous Decibels", read and answer questions from chapter 5 lesson 2, and have an open book quiz over lesson 2 on Friday.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time.
Sincerely,
Brandy Davis

*First let me apologize for the updated blog not posting Monday. I am not sure what happened, but I will be sure to double check it.
Important Dates
11/5 - Picture Retakes and Report Cards go home ***please sign and return envelope only
11/10 - Flag Raising Ceremony 9:00
11/11 - No School Veterans Day
Homework
11/5 - Study for Science Ch 4 Les 4 and 5 Quiz
11/9 - 30 Minutes of i-ready (done at home as homework) and math superstars due Friday
11/10 - Science Chapter 5 Lesson 1 Sheet
11/12 - Math Multiplication using area model, distributive property, and partial products
In math we are beginning to take our knowledge of factors and multiples and relate it to multi-digit multiplication and division. Our standards enable us to teach students multiple ways to use these operations. Students are expected to learn how to use various properties to multiply and divide. The standard algorithm is not a 4th grade standard. Below are some examples of multiplication strategies we will be covering. They are shown below in the following order: area model, distributive property, partial products.
In science we are completing the last 2 chapters in our matter unit on 11/6. We will begin a new unit on forms of energy 11/9. This unit is in chapter 5 of the science book.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thanks,
