Math - We will continue our Geometry unit for the next 2 weeks.  Students will be measuring and drawing angles using 360 degree and 180 degree protractors.  We will also be exploring the attributes of symmetrical figures, using addition and subtraction to find measures of adjacent angles, and learning about different types of triangles.  The new unit we are working on is on zearn.org for all students.

Science - This week we will complete and review the chapter 7 study guide. Students will test Friday, March 10.

Social Studies - Students will have the chapter 5 test on Tuesday, March 7.

Friday - Social Studies chapter 5 lesson 4 Quiz

Math - We will begin a unit on geometry this week.  Students will be learning about lines, rays, points, line segments, parallel and perpendicular lines, angles, using protractors, and types of triangles.  We will be in this unit until spring break.  Once we return, we will have a study guide and test the week of the 27th.

Science - This week we will be reading and answering questions in chapter 7 lesson, and we will begin lesson 5.  Students will get a study guide next week for the chapter 7 test.

Social Studies - We are completing chapter 5 and will have an open book test next Tuesday.

Math - This week we are completing our unit on decimals.  Students will test on Thursday and Friday.  Students also received an FSA Practice Book today (2/21).  It will be used as part of morning warm-ups for the next 20 school days.  This "book" is a great resource and covers all of our 4th grade standards.

Science - We will be watching a study jams clip on animal adaptations and a brain pop clip on migration Tuesday.  Wednesday will be the chapter 7 lesson 2 and 3 open book quiz.

Social Studies - On Thursday we will be working on a timeline activity in class.  This is in preparation for a class timeline project we will be working on prior to the St. Augustine field trip (March 16).  Friday we will review the reading activity (homework) and students will take the chapter 5 lesson 2 and 3 open book quiz.

In math this week we are beginning a brief unit on decimals.  We will be working with tenths and hundredths only.  Students will compare decimals and relate them to equivalent fractions.  We will also be doing basic arithmetic (addition and subtraction) of decimal numbers.

In science we will be learning about gymnosperms and angiosperms.  We will also be reading and discussing chapter 7 lesson 2.

In social studies we are beginning chapter 5.  Students will read and answer questions for homework this week.  The open book chapter 5 lesson 1 quiz will be this Friday.

January 30 - February 3

My blog is finally up and running again.  I am sorry for any inconvenience this problem may have caused.  Students should be writing in their agenda's the first day of each week.  You are also welcome to email me at any time - davisb6@duvalschools.org

Homework -

Monday - Math superstars and 30 minutes of I-Ready Math due Friday.  Math computer testing and written test (fractions unit) will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Friday - Social Studies Chapter 4 open book Test today


In math we are testing out of our fractions unit and Friday we will be moving on to decimal/fraction relationships.

In science we have just begun a new unit on plants and animals.  We will be having lesson quizzes and/or classwork assignments (all open book) weekly.  Students will also be  getting a life cycle project in the not too distant future.

11/18 - Math Test Multiplication and Division Strategies including cumulative review

This week in math we will spend time reviewing multiplication and division strategies in preparation of our test Friday.  Monday and Tuesday of next week will be used for remediation and to pretest our upcoming unit on fractions.  Our multiplication strategies are area model, partial products, distributive property, and the standard algorithm for 2 digit by 2 digit and 4 digit by 1 digit multiplication.  The strategies we are using for division are multiplying up, array models, area models, and partial quotients for up to a 1 digit divisor and 4 digit dividend.

In science we will begin chapter 5 lesson 2 on sound energy.  Students will participate in a virtual lab activity as well as a tuning fork lab activity.

In social studies we will test out of our election unit and begin a new unit after Thanksgiving.
